Simulation in the Tropics coming on 28 August 2024

Laser tag, paintball and gaming are a load of fun – but they are also part of a growing area of data science known as simulation. Simulation is expected to become a $973 billion global industry by 2050, with application across all other industries.

Townsville-based students and Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans can be among the first to complete the new nationally recognised Certificate III in Simulation and Interactive Technologies. The course is the only accredited vocational education and training (VET) qualification in simulation and interactive technologies in Australia.

A pilot of the course will begin in September 2024, proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Advance Queensland initiative.

At least 30 fully funded scholarships are available for Townsville high school students and ADF veterans to undertake the course.

How do I find out more?

Come along to a free information session, Simulation in the Tropics. The event is relevant for career coordinators and advisers, teachers, parents, high school students and Defence veterans.

Where: Smart Precinct NQ, 143 Walker Street, Townsville City.

When: Wednesday 28 August 2024, 3.30 pm – 5.30 pm.

Register: Online with TryBooking.

What to expect

You’ll learn more about simulation and how it is being used by businesses in the region. See interactive displays and demonstrations, learn about career opportunities, and hear how to apply for scholarships to complete the Certificate III in Simulation and Interactive Technologies. Light refreshments will be provided.

What is simulation?

We’ll explain more at the event, but in simple terms, simulation imitates the operation of real-world processes, systems or events. It involves the use of models to support education and training, experimentation, analysis, or test and evaluation. Simulation is increasingly being used in a range of professional fields such as research and education, health, defence, agriculture, mining and transport. There are many benefits of simulation including cost savings, time efficiency, reduced risk, and improved understanding and learning.

Careers in simulation

The federally funded North Queensland Simulation Park (NQ SPARK) will soon commence construction and will put Townsville at the forefront of simulation. Career opportunities in this exciting field include simulation technician, analyst, programmer and engineer. In addition to providing entry level skills to simulation the Certificate III provides a foundation for further learning such as progression to a Certificate IV, diploma or tertiary studies.
